We checked into the DoubleTree by Hilton York on 30th August 2025. We were allocated room 52 which is a duplex. The room was dingy, dirty with only half the lights working and slash marks on the wall.
We went to the front desk and were allocated room 36 instead, but told to keep 52 for the water because the hot water was off in 36
In 52 there was no plug for the bath, the desk gave us one. On the evening of 30th August I got a call from the hotel saying it was a miscommunication about keeping room 52 and they needed it back. I said that we had originally booked that room for the bath as my husband can't fit in the showers. The manager asked that we keep 36 for the night and change again the next day. In the morning, accessing the bathroom in 36 we saw the appalling state of it. Mildew all over the shower, toilet and sink not attached to the wall, plugs hanging off, paint falling off the ceiling and all over the already dirty floor. I have photos and videos of this.
We got out and went for breakfast where the staff there were loudly commenting on how much people had eaten and how fat they were.
The front desk (who were fantastic by the way) changed our room again, to an actual clean one. All of this took a day and a half of our 2 day break and was so stressful and disappointing.
On checking out we were given 25000 Hilton honors points as compensation. The hotel made the account, which was immediately hacked and someone changed the email connected to it and stole the points.
