I chose this hotel for its prime location right in the heart of Old City. I knew it was a budget hotel but I expected basic amenities.
As soon as I checked in I saw that the toilet seat was broken, the coffee machine was dirty, there was no coffee or tea packets, there was no bath soap and the room generally needed cleaning. I had to get soap from the other rooms since no one was around to ask.
I assumed this was because I checked in early and that they would fix everything.
Nothing was fixed and I left for the day assuming they would take care of it.
By the next day nothing had been done and when I came back after a day of touring, I was livid. By now I had noticed that I was being treated differently and even the check-in process had seemed like a bother.
I finally confronted management who seemed surprised even shocked that I demanded better service. I confronted them about their racial treatment and told them that my race should have nothing to do with the service they provide- it should be excellent for ALL people.
They apologized but the damage was done.
In contrast, the adjoining coffee shop owner was fantastic and welcoming even though I didn’t end up patronizing his shop.
There are lots more closer hotels and I CANNOT recommend this one especially for people of color.
I didn’t however let this ruin my visit and Old City is a must visit, so much to see, do and just enjoy.
