The hotel we had booked (Diplomat) is apparently closed due to Covid 19 and we were booked into a sister hotel (Ambasciatore) in the same area. Personally, I don’t think this practice is transparent, even if our hotel ended up being fine.
What really bothered me is that we received this info in Italian - along with the explanation regarding the parking garage. We requested an English information twice and only received it at 10:30 during the day of our arrival- by that time, we had lost confidence in the staff and decided to park at the airport instead.
It really ruined the night before, trying to sort out where we could safely leave our car (there are hefty penalties to entering the city without the hotel registering your license plate with the authorities first).
When we got there, checkin was smooth and the hotel seemed good; however, on checkout, we were told we still needed to pay for the room (we had already paid online) and there was water coming from the ceiling into several buckets in the lobby.
It is definitely the ideal location for anyone arriving by train or flight (tram is 1,50€ to the airport and stops right in front of the Ambasciatore), but Florence in general is nightmarish for car drivers.
