As an international student I often commute to London which is why I often book centrally located accommodations near a tube station. Britannia International actually has belonged to my favourite accommodations as the rooms are big, clean and the hotel's interior looks beautiful. If you have enough time it's even within walking distance from Greenwich University and London City Airport. I've always appreciated that they have a reception which is open 24h a day.
However, this time I was startled from sleep twice between midnight and 1am by repeatedly falye fire alarm. And this was not the first time I've experienced such a thing in this hotel. When I was going to the reception to complain there was already a dozen of guests complaining to the staff. I somehow felt sorry for the staff members who had to stand in front of all those understandably upset guests even though they were not to blame for the situation. But eventually they have to find a solution.
Of course, mistakes can happen. But now, the management should take measures to prevent it to repeat. As this is highly inconvenient for the guests, the management ought to alter the safety concept, e.g. organise some staff who walk up and down the floors regularly and check if there is some smoke. Or installing smoke detectors which first alarms the receptionists, so they first can check if an evacuation is reasonable before manually triggering a fire alarm.
