A poor pool experience ruined the trip
We stayed with our young kids in March 2025 and, long story short, there were some major problems with the pool that severely impacted our stay. I took our boys swimming the first night and by the end, after half an hour or so, all of us were struggling a bit. Burning sensation in the throat, coughing, etc; were used to swimming at the local rec center enough to know that this experience was unusual. Anyway, our youngest boy in particular got “chlorine cough,” and ended up vomiting/coughing a great deal over the next several days. This in turn led to a lack of sleep for us parents holding him upright and attending to him through the night, and so on.
So, a major problem.
To their credit the staff tried to address these concerns although the outcome was puzzling. In particular they tested the chlorine levels in the pool, which evidently were within normal ranges. From asking a couple professionals, the problem may instead have been inadequate ventilation, but in any case the results spoke for themselves. (Four people feeling quite unwell and one very unwell.)
