A small hidden gem on the edge of florence. We spent four days here and thorougly enjoined them! The stone-tiled rooms are decorated by a skillful hand, only the bathroom could use some improvement (flush sometimes not working). They even left a small surprise in our room for my partner's birthday which made the stay even more pleasant. If it is no problem for you to share the bathroom and walk half an hour to the city center, I would fully recommend this place.
Il Palagetto is half a block up a quiet street on the south side of the Arno, about a half hour's walk from the train station and the main tourist attractions. It is also two blocks from buses to the center of town. This is not a fancy place, but it is friendly, very serviceable, and VERY good value. Roger, the host, has good English and is very helpful. The rooms are large and clean, and tour books and umbrellas can be borrowed. The breakfast is substantial: ham, salami, cheese, bread, pastries, cold cereal, fruit salad, tea, coffee, and juice, as well as an egg made to order. We found this was enough food to last until dinner if we had a small snack in the late afternoon. And a snack was available at the guest house, in the form of hand fruit, cookies, and tea. Roger provides a list of nearby restaurants for dinner. We particularly enjoyed Tratoria Sabatino, an unpretentious family-run place that feels like home. Potential negatives: be aware that you will be sharing a bathroom with three other rooms. Also note that any arrival after 6 pm is considered "late". If your plane arrives after 6 you must arrange for Roger to pick you up,at the airport. This costs $25 euros, but it is money well spent if you are jet lagged and don't want to figure out the tram system. All in all, this is an excellent choice for value-oriented travelers.
The property was beautiful, it made me feel very comfortable and safe for a single young traveler, the owners took the time every morning to provide a beautiful home made breakfast too!
Friendly, welcoming, helpful...the place is quite pleasant...comfortable.....no sights to see immediately nearby but ..about a half-hour walk from the main places at the center of Florence...city bus stop nearby...I heartily recommend this place...
Beautiful guesthouse. Great host.
We had a very nice stay at Il Palagetto. The room was very tidy and the breakfast, especially the eggs, were amazing! We highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Florence. The location is quiet, but just a short walk from the buzzy heart of Florence.
This is an beautiful property on a quiet residential road. The walk into the city isnt too much but its better if you use the bus. The staff are kind and patient and the food is excellent. The decor is thoughtful and relaxed. The place is extremely clean. If other guests take too long in bathroom it can be problem is you really need to go or you have a child who cannot wait. We were not aware of another bathroom we could use in case the one next to us was occupied. When other guests and their children stay in the communal area after 8/9pm or slam doors, they can be noisy. This was problematic for us because our trip was so short and we needed to sleep early to recover from jetlag as well as arrive to tours early in the morning. The property and the staff are excellent, but the only thing I'd warn is that we were freezing at night and the blankets were not enough and we could not control the temperature of the room. We weren't aware of any extra blankets. It was late at night so we did not want to wake the staff to give us blankets. We slept in our clothes, the terrycloth robe and under the bathtowels to add more warmth but it was still cold. That is my only complaint about the accomodation . Again, the food was excellent, staff was personable and the cleanliness and condition of property was astonishing.
Beautiful room in a wonderful city. The breakfast was exceptional, eggs to order, many fresh breads, so many other options... delicious. Rogerio was very helpful with directions and bus tickets. We would have booked more events prior to our trip had we known that it was so challenging getting day before tickets to many attractions.
Quiet but excellent location in San Frediano area of the Olrano. Well served by public transport. Old world charm and very friendly hosts. Fine breakfast and very comfortable bed and good ensuite bathroom.
Fresh fruits, cheeses, meats, bread and made to order fresh florentine eggs for breakfast. Very helpful hosts and a great week of our two weeks on both sides of the Ponte Vecchio before going on to Lucca. Beautiful place to keep away from the noice but conveniently located to everything.
