Five-star service from check-in to check-out. We'd written in advance that one of us was here 52 years ago, and when we arrived not only did we receive a complimentary upgrade to a corner executive room with a wonderful view of the river and the city but also a lovely printed history of the hotel.
Our room like the entire hotel is tastefully and wittily designed, Italian touch with local connections throughout, like the lion head doorknobs.
Everyone at the reception and in the restaurant was friendly, helpful, and very well informed. The food both in the Lobby Bar and in Angelo was delicious, the breakfast a great combination of a small buffet with extra cooked-to-order choices.
We were both surprised by how beautiful Lyon is, having only changed trains here many times between Germany and Spain. While I can't remember what Lyon was like when I first visited with my aunt so many years, we'll definitely be coming back for a longer stay. And I'm glad she had chosen the Grand Hotel (its name back then) for us to revisit now.
