I have mixed feelings about this place. Even though everything worked out fine for us, and quality/cleanliness of room/amenities exceeded expectations, and we had a GREAT time in Chicago BECAUSE of the sweet location (2 blocks from El stop/heart of downtown!) still…
It seemed something shady was going on with random upcharges that were being assigned to other customers right as they were checking in. The staff person *called the police* and *cancelled the reservation* of people checking in ahead of us when they tried (in a completely reasonable way) to refuse additional charges. They were not acting unreasonable or dangerous, but staff was dismissive and passive-aggressive.
I braced myself, ready to accept extra charges because I would rather do that than start from scratch for my whole family with only 24 hours to spend in the city, but then, (maybe because the police were standing there?) she just waved me on, didn’t charge me more and didn’t make me initial that I would accept upcharges. She did make a bigger deal about the deposit for “incidentals” than other places do. So maybe the upcharges are coming…
The upcharges total about $125, which would just make it a “normal” price for downtown Chicago, instead of the amazing deal we got ($200 for a room with 6 double-bed bunk-beds, which was AWESOME!!) But still, it created unfortunate anxiety, especially for my teenagers, so a little cloud over the otherwise perfect trip.
(Note—The El did NOT disturb our sleep at all!)
