This collection of properties is spectacular overall. It is wonderful that all guests, regardless of which property you're staying, have privileges at the various 5-star amenities of the Williamsburg Inn and can enjoy the gorgeous grounds.
However, I was very disappointed with the check-in process. Check-in is at 4:00, and we arrived around 1:00. At that point, we did not expect our room to be ready, which is was not, and we happily went over to the pool for relaxation and lunch. However, it would have been nice if perhaps our room could have been prioritized with the cleaning staff. It clearly was not. At 4:00, we walked back to reception only to find our room was still not ready. We were asked to sit and wait "for 5-10 minutes." In that time, other guests flowed in and out of reception checking in and getting their room keys. We finally received our keys at 4:30. Staff was courteous about it, but not overly apologetic nor did they acknowledge that they could have done better. While I did not feel discriminated against for being a guest of the Griffin (3-star) at the pool, club house, or anywhere else, I do think we were perhaps at the bottom of the list when it comes to check-in. It just left a bad taste in my mouth.
I would probably stay here again but would be hyper-aware of the possibility of being labeled second-class as a guest of their lowest rated property, which, by the way, was perfectly nice, if a little plain.
