I am sure it was once a good hotel, but not anymore. Don't be fooled by the pictures, we were.
Couple of points which highlight our disappointment
- location: quite far away from Unawatuna, so always plan to take a tuktuk everywhere, extra costs
- hotel allows the tuktuk touts to harrass hotel guests non stop - used to this from other South East Asian countries, but here it was another organised level, which is really off-putting.
- pool/ relaxation area are in need of renovation work, the cushions look dirty and the garden is not well kept. The pool was closed for half of our stay.
- the rooms are ok, but feels more like a hostel than a 4star hotel
- breakfast is not fresh, they prepare it in advance so the toast is stale and cooked food is luke warm
- staff is friendly, but you can feel it's not sincere. When I wanted to book a massage at a nearby spa and asked for their help I was asked several times why I am not booking in their spa. (Maybe because it was too expensive...).
Overall, Sri Lanka is a beautiful place and the south is definitely worth going, but next time we stay in a better hotel.
