we were visiting relatives in Aveiro. they recommended the Melia. the hotel itself was fine, but I found the actual building and the surroundings very bare - the building is a rather ugly block from the outside, and the river area near it could be so attractive but there is a lack of trees, flowers, cafés (there is one, which opens at 11 a.am which is OK) but the general impression is rather bleak. the hotel is however, very near a shopping centre and you can reach most places in Aveiro on foot. we didn't have breakfast at the hotel as we just wanted a snack, so had a very good galao and some good Portuguese pastries, at an amazingly reasonable price, nearby. I would recommend the hotel as comfortable and fitting the requirements of a city break. it is not one i would choose if i wanted to spend a lot of time there.
