The room was very dusty and clearly hadn’t been thoroughly cleaned in a while. On arrival, I was told the room would be cleaned every second day - I was there for 6 nights. Whilst towels were changed, bin emptied and the bed made every second day, the room was not cleaned. The dust that was there on arrival was there throughout.
I also had an issue with the bath drain being blocked and I asked for this to be fixed twice. I ended up going to a local store to buy some drain cleaner/unblocker myself.
I was surprised to see the room has no kettle, tea or coffee - a pretty basic hotel service. There was also no bottle of water on arrival.
Every time I left the hotel and returned, my key wouldn’t work because it had been near my mobile phone. It’s 2026 - this is a problem that should not exist.
I have visited Berlin many times over the years and always try and stay in the same hotel, which wasn’t available on this occasion, so I booked the Sylter Hof. I had actually stayed in the Sylter Hof once many years ago - I think around 9/10 years ago - and I don’t recall it being this tired and tatty.
The staff were pleasant, friendly and the hotel lobby area is welcoming, clean and pleasant. The rooms are extremely tired and the housekeeping service really needs to be improved.
