The historic Alsace region of northeastern France borders Germany and Switzerland. Most of its quaint villages and towns offer a glimpse of life back in medieval times with well-preserved half-timbered houses, Romanesque and Gothic churches, fortified castles, and cobblestoned alleys.

Most travellers tackle the Alsace Wine Route, which runs from Strasbourg to Colmar, as a way to discover the region’s charming medieval towns and lush countryside. There are at least 6 Alsatian towns that made the acclaimed list of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France (The Most Beautiful Villages of France).
