We booked this property mid-March for a four person stay. The day of the stay, AFTER receiving the confirmation email, we turned up at 7 pm exhausted and ready to stay for the last night of our trip.
Turns out, right after we received the confirmation that morning, they sent us an email saying that they were full and could not accommodate us. We were left, the night before leaving, trying to find a place to stay. Prices for everything had skyrocketed. I decided not to fight through Hotels.com at the time as I had my elderly mother with me and she needed a place to rest. However, because Expedia can not reach the owner now, I am choosing to fight through my credit card company.
So far (as evidenced by this ability to rate my stay), the property has not let Expedia know that they cancelled, and Expedia has been unable to reach them to verify the cancellation. Expedia offered me $25 in credits through Expedia to make up for the stress. Frankly that doesn't begin to cover it. I had to pay for a different hotel and parking (when my previous booking included parking, additional petrol in the UK for a new, farther away stay). Why would I ever consider using Expedia/Hotels/com for any stay in the future if a early booking may not be honored?
