Firstly the price you see is not the price you pay. Shortly after booking we received an email saying we need to pay 21% VAT when we check in. I have been booking through hotels.com since 2018 and besides City Tax, we were never asked to pay any VAT or additional taxes. Regrettably we were not able to cancel the booking as it is no refundable.
Besides the above the apartment did not come with some basic items one would expect. As we have done a multi week trip we looked forward to be able to cook our own meals. However there were only 2 pots, no basic necessities like Olive oil, Salt & Pepper etc. And lastly the apartment was not properly cleaned. I understand we were there over some public holidays but we received dirty/worn linen and the wine bottles of prior guest was left in the cupboard. Lastly the wifi / internet is incredibly slow and will not be suitable for someone doing remote work as the connection tops out at 3Mbps which is not good enough in 2026.
The location of the apartment is good. It is a comfortable 5 minute walk to the metro and several convenience stores are nearby. You can also explore Palermo and nearby Recoletta quite easily with Uber. The nighttime guard is also incredibly friendly and made the after hour check in convenient.
