I stayed at the sanderling for the first time in 2017 and had a wonderful stay, however my recent stay found the hotel in a state of disrepair with unhappy employees.
The property has not been maintained to its former standards. The walls are heavily marked with wear and tear, and the carpets are stained and way overdue for replacement. The walls of our room were spotted with various spills and suitcase scuffs. I stepped on an open safety pin and noticed used tissues under the bed. It was also clear the hallways and rooms had not been vacuumed in some time.
Yes, the location is beautiful, but there is nothing luxury about this property. This once-grand resort now feels more like a neglected afterthought. It’s disappointing to see a place with so much potential fall so far from its former glory.
At checkout I voiced my concerns to management only to receive lip service from about a renovation beginning in November, however, the hotel is not in any condition to accept reservations and host guests, especially at the price point they are charging. Ultimately the manager waived the resort fee - which I expected since we had to carry our own beach chairs and umbrellas out to the beach and there were rarely beach/pool towels available.
Finally, we booked a king room through hotels.com but were given a room with two queen beds. The manager informed me that the property could not guarantee room types booked via third party, which I have never heard of before.
