The Scottish Islands include the Shetlands, Orkneys and the Inner and Outer Hebrides, all adding up to over 900 islands off the coast of Scotland. While there’s a lot of variety among them, most share the iconic stark beauty of the mainland, with bare rock and rugged heaths on full display.

Among the stars of the selection are Skye, Mull, Arran, Lewis and Stromness. Each is home to an especially hardy population settled in an especially striking landscape.
