We stayed for the air show. While the beachfront location is great, the stay was a frustrating chore.
• Wi-Fi Trap: Free Wi-Fi is a bait-and-switch. It forces you to join a rewards membership just to connect. Skipping doesn't work; you can't bypass it without signing up.
• Bad Layout: Garage spaces are confusingly numbered, and there are no signs for the elevator. There is no ice machine on the 1st floor; you have to hunt for it on the 2nd.
• Dismissive Staff: The room phone loudly beeped every half hour from 3:00 to 4:00 AM. The male clerk brushed me off, saying, "You're the only ones who complained," with zero apology. Don't blame the customer, go sit in the room yourself.
• Room Defects: The bed is uncomfortable and squeaks loudly the second you sit down. The "faux" curtains don't close all the way, leaving the room see-through at night. In the bathroom, the toilet ran constantly and nearly overflowed to the brim with every flush. The floor AC unit rattled and shook loudly all night (thankfully I brought earplugs).
Conclusion: We hotel-hop 2–3 times a month. This old building completely lacks basic comfort. For a prime Huntington/Sunset Beach location, it should be well-maintained, and the staff's attitude should reflect high hospitality, not the crappiness of the building. It is a mountain of wasted potential. If you want outdated, old and will tolerate it just for the beach, it's perfect. Otherwise, avoid it.
