If you stay in Cairo, you have to stay in an international 5-star hotel. The egyptian '5-star' equals maximum 3-star if not less in international measurement. In the western world, one can be perfectly well in a 3-star hotel, but don't do that in the muslim world. Only western, international well known hotel chains like Sofitel, Sheraton, Marriott, Steigenberger and the like. It's a rule. Having said that, if you still want to go for an egyptian hotel, Safir is one of the better options (have seen much worse). Still absolutely not worth the money. The coffee is cheepest instant coffee. The sofa looked like 100 years old and never cleaned. Cupboard full of dust.
