4/10 Fair

I wasn’t expecting a negative response experience when I booked this stay but the entire property made me wish I had booked another place. First, the location is impossible to find independently. There is no sign on the street at all. The parking is incredibly difficult to maneuver in and out of. The room itself, smelled strongly of mold. There is no wifi signal in the rooms, and a weakest possible signal at the reception area. In our room, there was no AC, and the TV did not work. I asked the front desk on the first day if something could be done and I was told a technician would come; they never did. On the second day, I asked again and the receptionist came and changed batteries in the remote to get the AC working again (I don’t understand why this wasn’t tried the first night). We told her the dehumidifier was full and she said it was fine and left. The bathroom is cramped and musty, and the linens are thin. Overall, I would absolutely not recommend this place, and I’m glad we moved to another property for the second half of our stay in La Fortuna.

Stay Away from this place. First off, is virtually impossible to find as it has no sign, you go up and down and would never know where is at unless you ask and even so nobody knows. The room was dirty, the bathroom was dirty. One of our beds had no sheet, it smelled. The shower was dirty, had hairs, dirt, there was a used floss stick just sitting there. We had no internet, no wifi, TV didnt work, we couldnt even look at our ipads to watch something as it had no connection. The TV didnt even have local channels. There is no proper parking. The dinner that came with the room was of low quality, the breakfast was ok, one of my plantains had a hair..I had to send back and the cook looked at me as if she was insulted. Expedia you should not promote this hotel…thankfully our stay was short, one night, it was enough to wish to run away but we had to stay, it was late to find another place. If you dont want to waste your money or feel ripped off, then dont stay here.

The hotel sits in the back of the Black Rock bar and restaurant. Victor is the owner and is genuine and kind. What a lovely oasis nestled off the main road in La Fortuna. The pool is refreshing and quiet. There is an outdoor gym and bar area near the pool and a few quiet places to sit and talk with friends. The room was comfortable and had a sliding glass door/patio. We had an excellent view of the volcano. The hotel has a gate that is closed at night, though we felt perfectly safe walking around to the shops, bars, attractions, and grocery store next door. The Sloth Park is a 15-minute walk down the street. The busy downtown area of La Fortuna is a 20-minute walk. We were warmly welcomed by Victor and all guests are presented with a refreshing fresh fruit smoothie upon arrival. We will stay there every time we are able to visit Costa Rica.

The good and the bad and inconvenient
Well, it was horribly difficult for drivers and walkers to find because it has no sign out front! So i had to deal with very annoyed and very NOT Pura Vida attitudes by the shuttle driver. Surprisingly there was a refrigerator in my room, which is a nice bonus. But no kitchen to jse or microwave, so it was not particularly useful. And no coffee or tea in the rooms, so inconvenient waitinf for kitchen staff to arrive each morning when I have been awake for hours.... Also, not important to me because I don't watch TV, but as soon as he walked me into my clean and comfortable room ( with very pleasant small balcony ) they showed me my marge screen television and said it doesn't work lol. But I was not offered a discount or other room. Staff was very friendly.

The property is away from La Fortuna Center. If you dont drive, consider a taxi. The hotel is on a uphill and can take any where between 30 minutes to an hour to walk depending on your speed. The hotel is good. Unfortunately, i had problems with the wifi. I told a staff member but he just brushed me off. I was told there is a laundry facility on site but i over heard staff reccomend guest to go else where. Just be patient, from what i was told, new ownership took over about 3 months ago. I would give this place a 8/10

Would stay again
We loved this little town just outside of La Fortuna. There are TONS of places to eat, a large Super right next door. The gardens on site were very nice. We unfortunately never got to see Arenal because of clouds, but we still took advantage of the the national park just 15 minutes away. Breakfast was very basic, but free with our room so can’t really complain. The dishes in our room weren’t clean, but overall we enjoyed our stay! There’s not a washing machine to use (there is one in some of the hotels . Com photos) but there was a laundry place a short walk up the road. We would come again for sure!
