Although some might find it quaint, we were rather put off by many aspects of our stay here. We reached our room over a set of steep stairs, along a balcony and up another set of stairs. None of the hotel staff made any attempt to help with our bags, or even show us the way. The room itself was small, filled with unmatched furniture and not particularly attractive. The small fridge did not work and one of the lights blinked on and off. These deficits were not balanced by the fancy soaps, especially as the bathroom was in need of renovation. Compared with other private hotels (not chains) in French and German small towns or semi-rural areas, and the general level of service, we felt that we had paid too much.
