4/10 Fair

Room very nicely renovated but spoilt by a really grubby balcony (which we had paid extra for) with overflowing ashtray on the table. Service very friendly but very odd hours of service - we had been told food served until 8.00 pm, but when we tried to order at 7.30 the manager said we were too late! She kindly managed to get the chef to provide a course but we felt rushed. In the morning despite notice on the door saying breakfast served at 8.30 we got down to the dining room to find no one around, same member of staff was on shift starting at 8.30 and said breakfast not served until

Friendly staff and okay accommodation

Staff were very friendly but service at breakfast could be improved. Breakfast was good. Accommodation a little tired but clean and comfortable.

8/10 Very good

We have stayed at The Victory three times now, it is very convenient if you want to go out for food around West Mersea and don't want to worry about driving. Plus it is close to the seafront walk of West Mersea Beach. Rooms are very clean, plus you have the advantage that they are part of a pub, therefore the ability to step down for a drink or food at any point.

Dealt with very well

There was a problem with a leak in the bathroom and the hotel gave us a full refund and has offered us a free nights stay. Can’t ask for me than that. Great staff, great service and once the problem is fixed very nice room. Best regards David Wolff

A small victory

Loved the position, had a balcony overlooking the estuary. Staff very friendly. Needs extra attention to cleanliness. Shower drain not cleaned, water collected in the tray couldn't run out quick enough. Tea tray not clean and cobwebs above the bed.

A great one night stay.

We have stayed her before and we will stay again. A lovely location by the sea. Very efficient and friendly staff. A few issues with room (no.5), water not draining from bath, mirror light not working. I know maintenance will be sorting these out soon, probably already sorted! Wonderful cooked breakfast in the morning.

Great value for money

We had room 9 which had an upstairs with twin beds as well as the double room down stairs. Plenty of space for just my friend and I. Beds very comfy, and we loved having our own outside space at the back. We couldn't put our finger on what the slight odour was in the room, but it didn't spoil our stay, so we didn't report it. The breakfast was absolutely gorgeous! as was our meal the night before. This place is very good value for money, and I would stay here again.

Nice Stay

I really enjoyed my stay at the Victory. There are lots of positives about this bed and breakfast. Cleanliness could be looked at. Throughout the site, there were lots of cobwebs both in the dining room and in the room I stayed in. The staff, super friendly, were very helpful. However, there was a lack of experience with some younger staff not knowing where the extra toilet roll was. There was no welcome pack or information card in the rooms, so I was unsure of how to use the WiFi and the irregular timing of the restaurant (understandable as it's a small community) made me unsure of whether it would be open or not. Lots of places close at 5 in the area. Communication could be improved (no response via the questions sent in message centre on hotels.com). I liked my room and I was very surprised about the size of the bathroom, however the shower had very low water pressure. There are no fans to use or borrow, so I brought my own. Luckily there was a strong wind during the time I there. There is a lovely area to sit outside and it's close to the beach where I spent a lot of my time. The area is in dire need of a small convenient store as the closest one is about a 14 or 15 minute walk away from the area. Lots of really great restaurants in the area, including the Victory itself. Don't forget anything! Cars would be helpful to get around the area as there is not a lot of public transport or taxis.
3-night trip

8/10 Very good

It was a good stay eventually after the upset of being told they were serving food and the kitchen never opened. Could do with some staff training, and customer service.
