Alles war perfekt.
Amazing property Fantastic service Great breakfast
We did enjoy our stay at Auberge. However, we paid for the large Overburg suite having not realised it was the “premium” suite in a fairly “standard” guesthouse. This meant that we paid £200+ a night for what we were expecting to be a luxury guesthouse with all the qualities for that sort of price. Instead we got an enormous suite with space we didn’t really need. I would 100% recommend Auberge Guesthouse for people staying in the standard rooms as these are much more sensibly priced and are probably good value. However, no matter how big the room is, to charge £200+ a night we were expecting much better facilities (the pool area was quite small, the hot tub was dated and not in a “nice setting” and we didn’t have a view from our room). Therefore, I encourage people to stay at Auberge in the standard room but don’t do what we did and pay a premium price for the suite!
Auberge Provence is situated right on the cliff walk into Hermanus, with beautiful views over the ocean. Our room was huge, and had the most wonderful bathroom. The bed was king sized and very comfortable. But most importantly the ladies of Auberge Provence ensure you are well taken care of. We arrived to a warm welcome and much needed refreshments, and I was pleasantly surprised to find they had booked us into two great restaurants for the nights ahead in case we hadn't had the chance! Breakfast each morning was tasty and a generous serving of coffee provided. The girls loved the hot tub as the pool was still a bit chilly, and we really enjoyed the walk into town each day. The views are truly spectacular.
Our room and the overall property was beautiful and there was a good breakfast menu (as well as a buffet of continental offerings). We experienced a couple of issues while there such as the toilet flush and hot tub jets not working in our room, but these didn’t detract from a lovely stay. (Fixing these details and a few other points would have had this being a 5 star stay for us.) The location right by the cliff path was great too.
Anni & Charlene hospitably was excellent and made us feel very welcome and that nothing was too much problem. They had very kindly had all our restaurants booked for us and it was easy enough to get taxis about the town. The guesthouse is a great location overlooking the sea and a short walk along the cliff path to the town center. We stayed in suite Overberg which was just define, loads of space and an awesome bath with luxury products. The smell of the room was beautiful and we made good use of the jacuzzi in the private patio area of the suite.
Great hosts. Would have liked to view the sea from the terrace.
The views along the Bay are amazing and it is ideally situated to walk along the cliff path into town and to the harbour. Anni and the team really looked after us, booking restaurants, taxis and whale watching for us. The food was fantastic, great breakfasts and ‘high tea’ in the afternoon. Most importantly, we were able to see whales from the shore line and on our boat trip.
Great feel to a French Villa on the beach. Extremely friendly and helpful people. Stunning attention to detail with high tea and breakfast. Highly recommended.
We stayed in the Lavender Suite. It’s a beautiful room. The plunge pool is not heated so great for summer but probably only appealing to masochists or Swedes in the cooler seasons. Masochistic Swedes will love it in Winter. The cliff walks are stunning. We saw huge groups of seals feeding about 50 metres out. Some whale activity too. Breakfast is ridiculously good. The managers, Anni and Liz are the managers and are the loveliest people. Just a word about the ground floor rooms - when sitting outside, you have to stand to see the sea. If that’s essential, get an upstairs sea-facing room. We didn’t mind as we sat on the wall of the plunge pool and had a winey blast. This is a very stylish place but unpretentious. I recommend it highly.
