People very friendly . Clean. Close to everything
A very disappointing stay. For a hotel with brand name recognition like Mercure/Sofitel, we were expecting a much higher quality of service than we received. Right from the start we were placed in a ground level room where there was a persistent dank smell in the hallways and the rooms. The hallway floor to our room was warped with a large dent in the middle, and our room's carpeting felt old and tired. The bathroom fared no better, with the sink frequently clogging then unclogging, and slight plumbing smells coming from the shower drain - not to mention the dirty grout along the tiles. The bed was also hard and uncomfortable, with the sheets feeling slightly damp, and we had mosquitos every night despite keeping the windows shut the entire time. This is completely unsuitable, especially for my mother who is nearing 60 years old. I won't even get into detail about the pool at Sofitel, which was worn beyond its years, and the dysfunctional hot tub that was lukewarm and inexplicably half full. For no apparent reason, the girls at the pool desk treated us like second-class citizens when we arrived as well. Front Desk was fine, and they accommodated our requests for bottled water promptly enough. They also replaced with our keycards which were constantly deactivating - yet another inconvenience plaguing our stay. Overall a very disappointing experience - I've had better stays in budget no-brand name hotels. I'm glad we had to endure only 2 nights but wish it was none at all.
We booked Mercure on Renmin Square and was upgraded to Grand Mercure on Renmin Square. The hotel decor is very run down, beds are like sleeping on rock. Room was infested with mosquitoes. My son had 10 mosquito bites, every-time we opened our window or room door more would come in, they were coming through the AC vents as well. Hotel needs major renovation décor old.
Location reasonable. About a 5min. walk in one direction to shops/restaurants, and 20min to the Muslim quarter. Metro fairly close by. Good sized room. Door in the shower didn't seal properly so bathroom floor flooded each time you used it.
We stayed for 3 nights, but we immediately had to change rooms because ours had a large wet spot on the carpet. We couldn't tell where the water was coming from. Also, the AC unit was not very good. After we changed rooms, it was fine. The pool is in a different hotel, which I didn't know when I booked. It was a very small, cloudy pool. Something was not right with the water, which was also very cold. They had swim lessons going on every time we went, which meant the entire shallow end was being occupied. Frustrating when you have kids with you, which I did. Also the hot tub was not hot at all.
Massive error by the hotel reservations team meant I had to pay twice for this hotel. The reception staff were good and thankfully they’ve now waived one of the charges. Set up is rubbish as all the amenities are across the square in the Sofitel. The grand mercure has no bar, restaurant or swimming pool.
The hotel is in a complex and sits behind the Sofitel Hotel (same management) and is a reasonable price for a clean hotel in a good location. We had a wonderful trip and Xi'an is a beautiful city.
We booked the Mercure but were moved to the grand Mercure in the same complex. We were told the Mercure was closed however we saw people coming and going from there throughout our stay of 3 days. Lovely old building but the rooms are a little tired, (bunching uneven carpet, worn furnishings) our room only had one bedside table, marks in the carpet indicated there was once two. Although friendly, service was inconsistent. Some days we had water replaced, other days none was left, tea and coffee was also replaced haphazardly. After calling these items were always replenished however you should not need to ask. Breakfast had a good selection which was hot and fresh.
Mercure was closed for a refurb, so we were upgraded to Grand Mercure - many thanks
close to shopping & tourist sites. however hotel carpet is quite old.
